5 Trips to Take in the New Year

The new year often brings new resolutions and one of the most popular resolutions behind fitness has to do with travel.  People often vow they will take a vacation in the upcoming year.  According to CNN on study shows that 768 million US vacation days went to waste in 2018.  Now more than ever, families need to getaway and recharge.  Planning a trip for 2021 can be just the way to accomplish that.  Here are some ways to use those vacation days in 2021:

Go Someplace You’ve Never Been

In the words of Dali Lama, “Each year you should travel to someplace you’ve never been.”  So often we get stuck into a rut of traveling to the same destination year after year.  However, it is important to step outside of your comfort zone and experience new foods, sights, and cultures even if it’s just a different state or city that you have never been to before.  Our family is trying to hit all 50 states before our oldest graduates and it’s exciting to go on these new adventures together as a family.

Explore Your Home State

If there was ever a time for a staycation, this is it.  Have you ever really experienced what your state has to offer?  Many states vary greatly in terrain and traveling to a different area can give you a completely different experience from beaches, mountains, cities or deserts.  For instance, where I am from in New York, we could travel South to visit NYC, West to the Finger Lakes region and to visit Niagara Falls, or North to the Adirondack Mountains.  You will be amazed at how much there is to see and do right in your own state!

Go on a Wine/Food Tour

Planning your trip around wine tasting or the best places to eat?  Count me in!  Here are some of our favorite places to go to indulge in some delicious food and beverages:

  • Kentucky Bourbon Trail
  • Napa Valley, CA
  • Finger Lakes Region in NY
  • Traverse City, Michigan
  • Ashville, NC
  • Savannah, GA
  • Baton Rouge, LA

Visit a National Park

Nothing can be more refreshing then getting away from it all and experiencing the great outdoors.  The possibilities when visiting a National Park are endless, from more adventurous activities like hiking or kayaking to scenic drives and lookouts – there is something for everyone to enjoy.  You may also be surprised at how many National monuments there are throughout the US that you can visit and partake in some American History and site seeing.  We enjoyed the Wright Brother monument in NC.  Visiting the ranger stations can be a wealth of information and a good activity for the kids with the Junior Ranger Program.  There are even National Seashores with vast oceans and wildlife refuges to explore.

Go on a Beach Vacation

A classic way to use those vacation days is with a beach vacation.  Many campgrounds offer full resort amenities from ocean front sites, pools, and waterparks.  Here are some favorites:
